The Nintendo Switch is in high demand and you can bet that this the demand will grow as we get closer to the holidays. If you’re buying it for a Christmas gift do yourself a favor and make your purchase now. This is the time to get a head start on your holiday shopping. Retailers like Best Buy, Game Stop, Walmart, and Amazon will have the Nintendo Switch in stock, but in limited quantity. That’s not their fault. Nintendo knows that there is a demand for the Switch and they have to supply the world. The great thing about this is that you can save yourself time and money by buying your Nintendo Switch before Black Friday.
My goal here is to make your shopping experience as easy as possible. Having worked in retail over ten years, I know how stressful holiday shopping can be. To avoid the stress of shopping at the mall or a big box store, simply shop online. But if you must shop at a physical store, consider the following.
Retailers are going to try to sell you bundles. Normally these bundles include an extra controller, a game, and a carrying case. I’ve seen prices from $349.99 – $399.99. Depending on who you’re buying the Nintendo Switch for, this may seem like a good deal. But remember, the goal of the store is to sell. The upselling product ensures that retailers make a profit. I don’t blame retailers for this practice. Their business is to stay in business. I will say, there are other products you can buy for your Nintendo Switch that will add value to the game playing experience. Here are a few:
- USB Type C Cable: In case you didn’t know, the Nintendo Switch Charges via USB-C. An extra USB-C cable is super convenient while traveling. Personally, I use Anker brand cables.
- Power Bank: Another great travel accessory for the Nintendo Switch is a power bank. Power banks can give you extra battery life while you’re on the go. The Anker PowerCore+ is a great add-on for the Switch. Not only will it charge your Nintendo Switch but it can charge your iPhones, tablets and other USB type C devices.
- Micro SD Card: The Nintendo Switch has 32GB of storage on board. Adding a micro SD card can significantly increase the number of games you can take with you. For 12.99 you can double the memory with this 32GB SanDisk micro SD or for $22.99 triple with the 64GB.
Speaking of downloads, you can save time by downloading your Nintendo Switch Games. Yes, every game released for the Nintendo Switch is available for digital download. You can go into a store or order games online but with downloads, you don’t even have to leave your house. File size for games vary. Unless you are buying NBA 2K18, you won’t immediately fill up your system memory.
Lastly, you want to protect your Switch. Two things you want to consider are a screen protector and or carrying case. As I mentioned, you can often get a carrying case when you purchase a bundle. Often these cases are not the best quality and do not completely shield your Switch from destruction. Now there’s no perfect case but I do recommend a hard shell case. I keep my Switch in the Hyperkin Hard Shell case. You can check out my review below.
